Android adds support for digital credentials.

Google has announced that Android supports digital credential presentations and issuance. This is based on basic support for OpenID4VP and OpenID4VCI standards that are integrated into Android’s credentials.

Adding this feature allows users to store digital credentials on the device within all apps that support DigitalCredential API. The app can also share information with other apps, and users can upload certificates using this or present them if necessary. For obvious security and privacy reasons, transplants occur through encrypted communication tunnels.

Digital credential selection interface

Digital credentials are a decent verification document that can include a driver’s driver’s license, passport or national ID, but if the technology is more widely adopted, it can be an educational certificate, insurance policy, members, and permission. They usually provide and save airline apps that can store users’ MILES REWARD programs as well as common wallet apps such as Google Wallet.

Currently, this feature is supported by Google Wallet and is also available for Samsung Wallet and 1PASSWORD.
