Zero exposure: This is a way we make the factory fair -Fair phone
It’s fun when you think about it. In the 1940s, tobacco companies would actively use doctors in the advertising campaign, leading to classics such as ‘more doctor acting camels’. When I went through advertising, cigarettes were approved after a doctor test. Of course, today, these things will no longer fly. As a consumer, you won’t fly anymore thanks to the strict regulations so that you can see how safe (or dangerous) you use. This is especially true in Europe. Numerous laws and consumer protection institutions serve as a watch dog to protect you and your health.
There is something that is not fun here
What is not interesting is that the factory where the product is made still does not maintain the same standard. Those who work hard in this building are at risk of exposure. There are many dangerous chemicals, such as cleaners and solvents used in the manufacturing process, but the final product does not end. The irresponsible use of toxic chemicals can lead to many cases of industrial addiction, which can lead to cancer incidence, reproductive damage, congenital defects, other serious diseases and even death. The global electronics industry is not the best performance regarding chemical management and worker safety. (It is highly recommended to see a comprehensive case study and list of news articles connected. Good electronics. You can also check out A documentary that catches this gaze In Vimeo.)
So what are the pair phones doing this?
How do you deal with this problem on the fair phone? How can people who work in the supply chain do not get sick? How do you prevent exposure to dangerous chemicals while working on a product?
Since 2017, we have to solve this problem with other electronic manufacturers, chemical companies, human rights activists and NGOs CEPN (Clean Electronics Production Network). This network was created to understand and ultimately remove the risks related to chemical exposure. Over the years, CEPN has confirmed which chemicals are the most dangerous and placed on the priority list. It also helped to map the use of these chemicals, find alternatives, find out tools and equipment for better chemical management, and build a safety culture that workers can consult, provide information, and actively participate in the decision -making process.
0 toward exposure
All these efforts were eventually determined in the event. 0 toward exposure Promise to launch an appropriate method to protect the promise program, the worker and keep it safely throughout the supply chain. Currently, there are four major electronic manufacturers who have joined the program, and Fairphone is the founder. The pair phone has always set priority for workers’ safety. That’s why we always maintain a limited material list (RSL) shared with all suppliers. As part of the program, some of our main activities are as follows.
- We so that priority chemicals identified as CEPN are not used in final assembly plants in Fairphone 4 and 5, Fairbuds and Fairbuds XL.
- We are used with data indicating more than 80% of the supply chain spending by using CEPN’s process chemical data collection (PCDC) tools for the use of priority chemicals, including direct and major sub -source upris. Not only the other documents of the supplier, but all the collected data are thoroughly investigated internally in FAIRPHONE.
- We also actively participated in the factory that performs the final assembly of smartphones to meet all of the CEPN’s best practices requirements. This allows workers to improve the safety of workplaces, to be educated and fully participated.
From today, FAIRPHONE prohibits use 28 Chemical product line of manufacturing process Protects workers’ health and safety. The final assembly manufacturer of smartphones and audio products will not use these 28 chemicals in manufacturing and will continue to map in the supply chain. And accordingly Zero exposure program for the latest annual reportWe are proud to be the first electronic company to start working to remove the second priority chemical of CEPN.
Of course, Absolute Zero exposure can be a reality only if more and more companies have to join and follow the supplier and subsain player. Therefore, if you know someone who works in the electronics industry, register your organization. 0 toward exposure Program as soon as possible. This is what you need to do.
